On the banks of the underground part of the river Acheron, beneath the earth, lives a vampire who ended up taking it as a result of her being occupied by spirits with whom she communicated as an assistant to the forerunner of the Acheron's necromancy in Ancient Greece.

She has lived there since the ancient Greeks believed that the souls of the dead would arrive after their journey opposite the stream of Acheron: the underground currents from which his course begins.

People hated vampires because they were considered demonic creatures. Not to risk being caught and burned, this vampire has been living on Earth for thousands of years ("... passively watching my life go through a box of glass")

The few times she comes to the surface to feed, covered in darkness, she happens to be threatened by passersby ("Words made of silence ... eyes full of hatred are staring at me")

The song refers to her illicit passion with a crusader in a later era, who discovered her coming from a European country underground, through a passage she had found, in place of which was once a large underground river. The tributary was Acheron's, and the passage was connected with him. That old river had dried up centuries before, leaving in its place a huge underground road connecting Epirus with Europe. This road was used by the Knight of the Crusades as a safe passage in Greece and from there to the Middle East.

At their first meeting near the springs of Acheron, as the vampire bathed in the dark underground, they saw and fell in love immediately.

But this love was doomed. The knight, a symbol of duty and order and a crusader army officer in love with a ... Demon! What would people say if they learned about this ("This is my decadence, this is my sin ... I'm the angel who's fallen from Grace"); would burn them both!

Their love was secret and they met only beneath the earth when he passed with his troops, or when he went to meet her secretly.

Something unexpected happens at some point: a Middle Eastern sultan is killed by the Westerners in Crusade, and with this pretext and the real reason being the demand of the liberation of the Holy Land, the Arabs capture a Western princess by threatening to kill her if the Westerners did not return the territories it occupied and which belonged to them. Of course, the difficult task of releasing the princess is entrusted to the brave knight.

The knight explains to his beloved what is going on and she waits patiently for him to return. But time went by and the knight was invisible.

Not having to endure another, she decides with the risk of her life to wear a long red cloak and go out to look for him.

She had been walking all night and all day, until she reached Jordan. There her ankle, which had been left uncovered, got burnt by the sun. People smelled the burnt flesh and turned towards it with suspicion. When they understood what the girl really was, they started chasing her. Unable to catch her, they began to shoot at her with flaming arrows, some of which fell on her cloak and forced her to pull him out.

They surrounded her in the desert of Jordan leaving her no choice but to run almost naked in the sunshine on the hot sand. She shouts the name of her lover ("my swan song a cry for your name") calling him for help ("come to me ... in this black waterfall of doom") as she is being burned by the sun.

Her lifeless shell lies in the middle of the desert while the mob leaves.

Meanwhile the knight, who had seen her in his sleep the night before to call for help ("... then you came into my dream ... Your last yelp") released the princess and had gone with his army the way back.

On their horses, the knights crossed the Jordan desert, when the Knight of our story sees a lifeless body in the sand. He runs up there and realizes he was his dead loved one. He kneels on the ground, takes her in his arms, and from the cry he makes, the earth opens in two and they both fall into Hades.
